Travel // Napa & Sonoma Winery Recommendations

This was my second time wine tasting in Napa and Sonoma. While I love wine, I'm definitely not an expert on the topic, and we were a little lost choosing which vineyards to visit. There are so. many. wineries out there. With the help of  recommendations from friends, a little research online, and serendipitously sharing an uber with someone who works at a winery, I think we made great choices.

I love this photo from last weekend's trip to Northern California... grape vines for days! So far I've rounded up two of my favorite parts of our trip, linked them below... look out for more NorCal posts next week! I'm heading down to Florida this weekend for a quick little birthday jaunt with my boyfriend (I turn 27 on Monday. #TimeFlies)

Wine Tasting in Tory

I've had my eye on this silk shirtdress dress for a while and was so happy I pulled the trigger during the Tory Burch Fall Event sale. It was the perfect dress to take to Northern California. Mild weather in the fall can be a little tricky to dress for... certain silhouettes and colors don't feel appropriate for mid-autumn, but you still want to stay cool. The long sleeves and high neckline give this dress a chic look, and the short, flowy hemline was great for the warm temperatures. I also love that the dress didn't wrinkle in my suitcase (who wants to spend time ironing when they're on vacation?!) Most importantly this dress was super comfortable to wear for a day of wine tasting, while still making me feel put together. I paired it with my favorite brown mules which are sold out now but here's a similar option. Oh, and the best accessory... a delicious glass of pinot noir.

NorCal Recap Part 2- Hog Island Oyster Farm

After a hike in Muir Woods we stopped at Hog Island Oyster Farm on Tomales Bay in Marshall, CA. I absolutely love oysters and it was so fun to visit an oyster farm.

Hog Island is in the tiny town of Marshall, which is along the gorgeous Point Reyes National Seashore. The farm offers a storefront to buy wholesale oysters and a casual outdoor restaurant. It's a much smaller space than I was anticipating, so if you go, be sure to reserve a picnic table for your group or arrive early to snatch one of the non-reservation picnic tables. The farm is on the stunning Tomales Bay... look at that view! It was so serene and since it was a work day, we practically had the place to ourselves. Amazingly fresh oysters in a beautiful setting... what's better than that?

NorCal Recap Part 1- Muir Woods

Visiting Muir Woods has been on my bucket list for a while, and it did not disappoint. Muir Woods National Monument is about 12 miles north of San Francisco, right over the Golden Gate Bridge. We made it a pit stop along the way of our drive from SF up to wine country.

This excursion is a definite must do for any nature lover. The woods are made up of old growth redwood trees and the land was declared a national monument by Teddy Roosevelt in 1908. Most of redwoods are between 500-800 years old, the oldest being around 1,200 years... and they're HUGE!

It was so gorgeous and peaceful walking among the huge redwoods. If you're in the area you can make Muir Woods a quick trip (a boardwalk meanders through a redwood grove) or you can do a longer hike up the surrounding Mount Tamalpais.

Napa Outfit Inspo & Shopbop Sale

Shopbop is having a huge friends and family sale right now. You can score 25% off your order with the code INTHEFAM25. In anticipation of my upcoming trip to Northern California, I put together a look from Shopbop that I’d love to wear winery-hopping. The sale ends at midnight on October 15, so if you have something in mind be sure to order it soon!

Apple Picking and Fall Stripes

Every autumn we head out of the city for a day to go apple and pumpkin picking. It's a tradition that I really look forward to every year. Getting out of the city is so nice and visiting a farm isn't something we would typically do (I also have a killer apple crisp recipe... more on that later). This year we went with my boyfriend's family to Wightman's Farm in New Jersey. I recently purchased this striped dress by Ganni on Shopbop and figured this warm day was a great occasion to break it out. I love the dress so much because of the material. It's 100% cotton, but it's such a nice, thick, sturdy weight that's perfect for fall. The boat neckline and 3/4 length sleeves are a classic cut, and of course, navy and white stripes are A+ in any season. I added an orange silk scarf from Top Shop to give some fall-festive color, and my brown riding boots from J.Crew completed the look. It was a perfect fall day!

Wine Country Trip Planning

I’m heading to Northern California next week for a long weekend in wine country with my boyfriend. We’ve been once before in the spring, but I’m excited to be there during the harvest season! I'm looking forward to discovering new things this time around and sharing travel tips and recommendations with you all. Here's what we have planned so far:

We both absolutely love oysters and visiting an oyster farm would be a dream. Hog Island Oyster Co is located in Marshall, CA on Tomales Bay, and it would be a stop along the drive from San Francisco to Wine Country. One of my favorite parts of visiting Northern California is this drive up the state. It's so incredibly beautiful. On our last trip we went a little off our route to explore Point Reyes. The rolling hills, ocean vistas and lush greenery make this part of the country so gorgeous. Visiting an oyster farm would be the perfect little detour for this trip. Hog Island offers a retail kiosk, picnic area, restaurant, and farm tours.

Another stop along the drive up from San Francisco is Muir Woods. Muir Woods is an old-growth redwood forest. It was declared a national monument by Teddy Roosevelt in 1908. It's been on my bucket list for a while to visit the woods and walk among the huge trees.

Of course, winery tours and wine sampling are must-dos. There are so many great wineries in this area and selecting which ones to visit is a bit daunting. Some great options: sampling sparking wines at Domaine Chandon and taking in the history of the ivy-covered Inglenook Winery.

Fall Favs

I mentioned here that I finally started putting away my summer clothes and transitioning my closet for fall. As I pull out and revisit old fall clothing, I'm realizing just how many items I still have from college and even high school. I definitely still wear older clothes, but I want to start cleaning out my wardrobe. I'm implementing a policy of if I can't remember when I last wore something I'm getting rid of it and donating. There's no use in a years old sweater last worn freshman year taking up precious closet real estate! As I'm cleaning out and getting bags ready to donate (NYers- I love donating here), I rounded up some fall staples I'm loving above. Fall stripes, dark denim, cozy plaid and burgundy accents are on my mind!

PSA: Tory Burch Sale Ends at Midnight

I knew Tory Burch was having a fall sale event, but didn't think I needed anything. Wrong. I checked out the website today and was blown away at how gorgeous the fall collection is. Good thing I looked now, because the sale ends at midnight! So here's your PSA to stop by the website before the sale ends, you may find something you didn't know you have-to-have. I rounded up three of my favorite pieces below. Enter FALLEVENT at check out for 20% off of $300, 25% off of $500 and 30% off of $750.

Merino Jacquard Sweater

Fun Fringe and Cozy Sweater

We've been having such great fall weather in New York (well minus Joaquin) it's been warm and sunny for the most part. As I'm changing my closet over for the season, I've been trying to figure out how to make some of my favorite warmer weather pieces work in the autumn months. Even if it's in the 70's and sunny, I just don't feel appropriate wearing very 'summer-y' looking pieces. This skirt was an end of summer purchase from Club Monaco. I love how special it is! The weaving gives such a unique texture, the fringe is so fun and the colors are gorgeous. As awesome as this skirt is it doesn't totally scream 'fall.' In trying to make it more autumn friendly, I paired it with this Theory sweater and the combination of slouchy, cozy sweater and more structured skirt worked well. I added some brown riding boots to drive home the fall feeling. I'm really happy with this look and how versatile the skirt turned out to be!

How perfect is this ombré pumpkin?!

Happy October everyone! It's my most favorite month.  I love everything about this time of year... pumpkin and apple picking (I have a killer apple crisp recipe to share), cozy sweaters, the colorful leaves, fall produce, and I also really love Halloween! I have some fun getaways coming up that I'm excited to share travel tips on, and some awesome fall recipes, too, so stay tuned!
