Fashion // Early Spring Styling

The warm sunny weather we've been having in NYC has my mind on all things spring... even though it's still February!

It's a little frustrating wanting to buy all the cute summer clothes in stores now, but knowing the official start to spring is still far away. I've been trying to incorporate spring pieces when I can, like I did here. This weekend was another opportunity to break out a more spring-y look. I wanted to share some tips I have for slowly incorporating warm weather items into your wardrobe when it's still technically mid-winter!

Bring out the colorful accessories
In the winter months I find myself gravitating towards black and navy outfits. Come spring I'm dying for more color! One of my favorite ways to liven up an outfit, and infuse a bit of spring style, is wearing bright accessories. I love a fun colored bag or shoes to spark up an otherwise dark ensemble. Bright pink, yellow and blue are my favorite springtime colors. I added my hot pink crossbody bag and pink flats to add a bit of spring vibes to my weekend look.

Start showing a little bit of skin
When the temperature breaks 60 in February it's a very welcome respite from the freezing cold, but that doesn't mean it's time to throw on a summer outfit. Although the thermometer is higher than normal, it's still the middle of winter. I do think this is a good opportunity to show a little skin, but you have to be careful. An off the shoulder top, a sweater with cold shoulder openings and dresses with bare legs and knee high boots are all great ways to dress lighter but still winter appropriate.

Brighten up your makeup
Similar to my thoughts on using accessories to spring-ify your look, I think playing with your makeup is also a good idea. I tend to be pretty neutral with makeup and not experiment too much, but I do love to play with lipstick. I threw on this shade over the weekend and felt instantly brighter. When I'm wearing a bright lip color I like to keep the rest of my face pretty plain, with just little bronzer and mascara.
